Star Wars and Marvel Are Finally Crossing Over
Kevin Smith is writing the first official crossover between Star Wars and the Marvel Comics universe.
Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles will be a five-issue series illustrated by David Marquez, bringing Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca together with Spider-Man, the Avengers and other Marvel heroes. Doctor Doom apparently has the considerably worse idea of aligning himself with Darth Vader and the Empire.
The story starts when a spell fractures reality and causes events from Star Wars to appear within Marvel's Earth-616. The first issue arrives in January 2027 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of A New Hope.
What makes Kevin Smith such a fun choice is that this isn't some random corporate assignment. He says he subscribed to Marvel's Star Wars comics as a kid and used to wish Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross into that universe. Now he actually gets to write it.
It is kind of amazing that Disney has owned both properties this long and nobody officially smashed them together before now.
And yes, Darth Vader and Doctor Doom in the same comic is enough to get my attention.
