NASA Should Have Shown Us More

In A High-Definition Cinematic Video Relives NASA’s Artemis II Mission, Kate Mothes shares MELODYSHEEP’s film assembled from NASA footage of the mission.

“His original music accompanies the public domain images and soundbites.”

The footage is beautiful, but it also left me wondering why NASA did not make more of it available live during the mission.

Some video was transmitted, but the best material was scattered across long broadcasts, separate camera feeds, and later releases. Mission telemetry and crew communications obviously come first, and bandwidth is limited, but this was humanity returning to the Moon.

A clear onboard stream, followed quickly by a well-edited release, would have helped more people experience the scale of what was happening.

NASA captured something extraordinary. It should have made it easier for the public to see it while it was happening.
