Apple Finally Gave Us Our First Real Look at Neuromancer
Apple has released the first full teaser for its adaptation of William Gibson's Neuromancer, with the series set to premiere on January 22, 2027. The show stars Callum Turner as Case and Briana Middleton as Molly, bringing one of the most influential science fiction novels ever written to the screen for the first time.
I'm currently rereading Neuromancer, and it's one of those books I keep coming back to every few years. Gibson's vision of cyberspace, AI and corporate power still feels remarkably modern more than four decades after it was published. It's easy to forget how much of what we now associate with cyberpunk started here.
Apple has built a strong track record with science fiction. I've enjoyed Severance, Foundation, Silo, Dark Matter and several of their other genre series, so I'm optimistic they'll give this adaptation the budget and attention it deserves.
Adapting Neuromancer won't be easy. The novel is dense, fast-moving and full of ideas that are often implied instead of explained. If Apple can capture the atmosphere without sanding off the rough edges, it could introduce a new generation of readers to one of the books that helped define modern science fiction.
I'm looking forward to finding out whether this is one of those rare adaptations that lives up to the original.
